The OILspace Commercial Team is located throughout the world visiting with dozens of clients and potential
clients about how to eliminate the many risks associated with managing the flow of over USD 1.5 trillion in world
oil trade. Blinds spots for different areas of the business are a significant problem. In one specific case, an
OILspace client was able to calculate profits and losses for priced deals only. It had no visibility of marked-to-market
for its extensive physical deals, and could not easily calculate forward curves. With several offices globally,
and each trading team maintaining its own spread sheets - monitoring company-wide exposure and VaR
were impossible. There was no live flow of deal information for operations, logistics and the back-office. This
company understood the problems, but its internal IT team simply did not have the resources to develop the functionality
necessary to expand visibility that was critical.
OILspace Solution: By deploying the OILspace Energy Service Bus (ESB) integration and real-time messaging
platform, the client was able to open up bottlenecks for a free flow of live trading data throughout the organization.
The Risk Management and Profit & Loss components of ASPect Office were integrated with the trading
company’s solid transaction management system. The new front-office controls and tools gave management an
up-close, real-time view of VaR, P&L, and exposure on micro levels, and for the entire company. The OILspace
ESB allowed this company tremendous flexibility in also keeping its existing logistics, order management and fulfillment
systems resulting in significant savings in time and money over older, inflexible client-server systems.
