The challenge for one OILspace client was to reduce costs related to its growing logistics operation. They needed to
manage hundreds of loading instructions every month for the dispatch and arrivals of thousands of rail cars
through more than a dozen ports transporting various unique crude and product types. Timing is everything in
shipping, and costs involved with having to re-schedule and re-load product can eat away at company profits as
shipping costs are second only to the product itself. This company had no centralized system to move product
requests from order entry through invoicing. It required several integrated solutions from OILspace to remove various
bottlenecks in its supply chain and re-direct standardized processes, workflow and data from the front end.
OILspace Solution: By deploying the OILspace Energy Service Bus (ESB) integration and real-time messaging
platform, this client was able to unlock bottlenecks for a free flow of live transaction data throughout the organization.
The company also integrated several other ASPect Office components, along with Logistics Planning &
Execution which delivered the tools to track product movement in real-time to reduce delays and invoicing errors,
and improve risk management for physical products in transit. Because it operates its own fleet of rail cars and
ships, reducing the need for third-party transportation was also essential. ASPect Office helped improve fleet utilization
rates and turnover by as much as 30%. Opportunities and increased revenue have been created through
visibility of the most viable shipping routes, and emergency stock situtations have been decreased through better
planning. They’re now able to make decisive changes on scheduling without lost time. All documentation is centralized
and accessible by necessary departments.
